Morneau Shepell concludes annual Employers Connect events across Canada

New research on workplace well-being shared with more than 750 business leaders

TORONTO, March 3, 2020 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell's annual Employers Connect summit has now concluded following successful events held from January 29 to February 26 in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax. At the events, more than 750 business leaders learned about the findings from Morneau Shepell's latest research on workplace well-being and gained insight on how organizations can support their employees' physical, mental, social and financial well-being.

In its research, Morneau Shepell found that more than three quarters (77 per cent) of Canadian employees would consider leaving their current organization for the same pay if their new workplace offered better support for the personal well-being. When analyzing to what extent compensation affected the decision to leave, the majority (60 per cent) of employees claimed to still be more likely to leave their current employer if they were offered less money but better support for personal well-being.

"As workplaces evolve, employees are recognizing the importance of their own well-being and turning to their employers for support. We are encouraged by the increased interest from organizations to provide their employees with access to employee and family assistance programs, internet-cognitive behavioural therapy and digital meditation – to name a few examples. At the same time, however, employees are telling us there is room for improvement and that they are more likely to work for an organization that focuses on its well-being offering," Paula Allen, senior vice president of research, analytics and innovation. "We are grateful to everyone who attended our Employers Connect events and encourage employers to continue these important discussions throughout the year."

Employers Connect panels included representatives from Bell Canada, Sklar Wilton & Associates, Deloitte, a physician and two Olympians.
