Morneau Shepell launches EAP continuing education course for brokers

Course equips brokers with knowledge about employee assistance and tools to help clients build healthier, more productive workplaces

CHICAGO, December 1, 2020 – Morneau Shepell, a leading provider of total wellbeing, employee assistance program (EAP) and digital mental health services, announced the release of its first continuing education course specifically for benefit brokers. Entitled, Understanding Employee Wellness and Coverage, the one-hour course is designed to help benefit brokers support their clients’ business objectives with an expanded understanding of EAPs.

The online, on-demand course examines how EAPs like LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell have evolved over time to offer resilience-based, tech-enabled, proactive support in response to the changing needs of today’s workforce. Structured as a comprehensive overview of best practices, the course identifies the types of EAPs available today and the essential role that EAP access and new technologies have on creating a healthier and more productive workforce.

“Brokers provide crucial support to their clients’ HR and senior leadership teams by encouraging greater engagement with employer-sponsored benefits,” said Neil King, president of LifeWorks and executive vice president of Morneau Shepell. “Now, with a comprehensive course that covers the value of EAPs, especially during these difficult times, brokers can become even more knowledgeable assets to their clients to assure their benefit offerings are aligned with their employees’ needs.”

Citing the latest research from the Workplace Outcome Suite annual global survey of employees, the course presents data that addresses the relationship between EAP usage and employee absenteeism, presenteeism, work engagement/turnover, life satisfaction and workplace distress. The course positions brokers to play a key role in supporting employee health and wellbeing by building strategies to sell EAPs that will result in delivering the maximum benefit for clients’ needs.

Prior to the pandemic, a 2019 study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cited job-related stress as the nation's leading workplace health problem with absenteeism-related stress exceeding over $225 billion each year. As the pandemic continues into 2021, increasing levels of stress and isolation heighten demands for wellbeing resources, making benefits like EAPs an important investment for employers.

“This course couldn’t come at a better time,” said Mark New, managing partner at Dorado Benefit Advisors. “The EAP course offered by Morneau Shepell helps brokers understand the connection between happy employees and a productive organization, and share that with their clients. Plus, it directly addresses how EAPs can effectively help their clients address improvements in workplace culture, which is more important today than ever.”

Staying up to date on the latest in benefits and coverage allows brokers to play a key role in helping clients reduce preventable health claims and lower rates of workplace absences and injury. For more information or to enroll in the course, please go to: lifeworks.inquisiqr4.com.
